BIOGRAPHY

Alessandro Criscito (b. 1984) is a visual artist and designer based in Italy, whose work exists at the intersection of art, design, and contemporary reflection on modern life’s accelerated rhythm. From an early age, he showed a strong attraction to the visual arts, an interest that later led him to study architecture between 2003 and 2006.

Beginning in 2007, he developed his professional practice within the field of design, focusing primarily on furniture design. In 2016, he presented his first art collection: an innovative series of functional sculptures that received significant international recognition and were featured in specialized magazines around the world between 2016 and 2019. During this period, and between 2015 and 2018, he also participated in several exhibitions.

In 2019, Criscito lived for a period in Iceland, an experience that profoundly influenced both his personal and artistic perspective. There, he encountered a way of life centered on presence, balance, and a deep connection with nature—where work coexists with creativity, leisure, and personal development. This experience strengthened an ongoing realization: contemporary society often moves at a frenetic pace, leaving little room for pause, awareness, and genuine experience.

Since 2025, Alessandro Criscito has formally pursued his career as a visual artist, focusing on acrylic painting on canvas. His current body of work is informed by his background in design and his interest in exploring the tension between movement and stillness, offering a reflective and conscious response to the speed of modern life.

STATEMENT

My work emerges as a visual reflection on the accelerated rhythm of contemporary life and the urgent need to slow down, observe, and inhabit the present moment. Through acrylic painting on canvas, I explore the tension between seemingly opposing forces: fullness and emptiness, movement and stillness, material consistency and the unpredictability of displacement.

Acrylic is a fundamental medium in my practice due to the intensity of its colors and its fast drying time—qualities that directly engage with notions of time and gesture. Each piece originates from a pictorial action that captures agitation, then freezes it, transforming it into a space for pause and contemplation.

My visual research focuses on what happens when these opposing forces enter into dialogue. The resulting surfaces reveal layers, tensions, traces of movement, and moments of silence, inviting the viewer to perceive not only the image, but also the time embedded within it.

In a world driven by speed and overstimulation, my work proposes a conscious act: to stop, to acknowledge movement, and from there, to inhabit stillness. Rather than representation, my painting seeks to create an experience—an opportunity to reconnect with the present and reflect on one’s own pace of life.
